New artwork from Pete McKee

This weekend artist Pete McKee is set to launch two new paintings celebrating the city’s football teams Wednesday and United. Players feature in Pete’s legends series of paintings ‘Wednesday Legends, Class of 93’ and ‘Lane Legends’. Here is what Pete had to say about the Wednesday and United pictures.

“Being a life long Wednesdayite can be hard at times, more often than not full of hardships and disappointments, it’s very rarely an easy ride, so I wanted to take the opportunity to celebrate the good times and bring back memories of the glory days, when not only was the shirt worn with pride (as it always is) but watching Wednesday was a joy and a victory was almost assured, a bit like the Owls now.

Picking the four players to be represented in the painting was easy for me, ask any Wednesday fan of my age who their favourite Wednesday players are and the will say Hirst, Waddle and Sheridan almost without fail, so all that I needed to do was pick my other personal favourite of the squad Roland Nilsson. And the quartet is complete.
I will in the future do a legends painting with some old fave’s including Dooley, Zico, TC and Bully but for now, it’s time the Class of 93 took a bow. Tricky Trevor’s barmy army….

“To honour the red and white half of the city I set about painting the 4 greatest players to don a Blades shirt, this wasn’t a straight forward pick, as it seems every Unitedite has their own particular favourite four, without doubt Currie and Edwards seemed to feature in everyone’s choice, then a whole raft of top heroes and legends were mentioned. It seems that there were too many to choose from, but it was apparent that the legendary Jimmy Hagan had to feature and that left the final choice, and from my school days the one player that seemed to get mentioned more than any other by my Blades mates in was goal machine Brian Deane.”

Both paintings will be available to view at Pete’s gallery ‘a Month of Sundays’ from Saturday 19th November.
