Crayons at the Ready

Posted 19/03/2011 in

I’ve done a few talks recently in schools and collages and the issue of when i wanted to be an artists comes up every time and i answer “when i was about 7”, but really when i look back i always seem to have had a crayon in my hand and if my parents were lucky this crayon would be put to use in a colouring book instead of on the anaglypta wallpaper in the living room, which to be honest is pretty rubbish for drawing on.

To acknowledge the roll ‘colouring in’ has played in the development of artists careers we at A MONTH OF SUNDAYS gallery have set up FRANK’S CLUB. an area in the gallery where little mites can develop their colouring in skills.

As you know i have some links with Japan and i want to take this opportunity to pass on my best wishes, love and hope to all my friends out there. We are all thinking of you.

On Thursday i will be participating in Pecha Kucha an event with an eclectic mix of speakers. we each pic 20 images of our own choice and than have 20 seconds per slide to talk about them. My subject is “The Art... of being Working Class” money raise from this fantastic event will go to the victims of the Japanese earthquake disaster. I hope you can make it down. http://pkn05.eventbrite.com/

All the best x

At last evidence from a respected (and brilliant!) Artist
About the value of colouring in for children! As a teacher I always find people consider a colouring activity to be just a keeping them quiet activity! Just been told in my school to reduce my use of poster paint with the children and that they should be mixing it up in powder form! I agree they should colour mix as a taught lesson about making different colours. But for my six year olds when the paint is ready they just express themselves quickly and well! Please come and talk in my school!!
